The Word begins with one of the most breathtaking narratives there is: the creation of the universe, the world, mankind. Lovely flowers, grand mountains, stunning oceans were spoken into existence by the Alpha and Omega. This narrative, so simple and concise holds a brilliant phrase,
The the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.
Genesis 2:7
The God of the Ages, the Uncreated One, King of Forever, imparts His breath into man’s lungs. He is the Uncreated One, the King of Forever, the God of the Ages. And he chose to give us His breath. Our God is not only the God that reigns over time and creation, but our God is Love. It was Love that filled man’s lungs; we have the very breath of Love. What encouragement is it that our lungs are filled with the very breath of Love. And this is not just a flippant or distant love. Rather, this Love that knows no end. It knows no lack. It knows no bounds.
It is this Love, Dear Saints, that beckons us to nearness, holiness, and life fully lived. It is this Love that positions our hearts in an atmosphere where we are free and breathes the fullness of life into our hearts. Just as God breathed into Adam’s lungs, so the breath of the Holy Spirit comes and fills our hearts with life. No longer are we gasping for air or searching for a life source. The bonds of the artificial and the perfunctory fall away; in His presence we are free to be who we were made to be. The dust of our life is transformed into the fullness of all that He has planned for us. Our hearts cannot help but thrive and grow in this atmosphere, this environment.
As we worship and draw near Him with humble, sincere and expectant hearts, destiny begins to take hold. Transformation is authored and facilitated in the secret place. Our hearts are molded and shaped into the likeness of the Son as we step into the righteousness and holiness that has been made available for us. All that is required from us is a simple and decided, “yes.” We need only submit our hearts to the Lord, Dear Saints. This Love that breathes will come and fill us with the fullness of life.
