Behold, I am with you always, till the end of the age.
Matt 28:20
It is with these words of promise and hope that Jesus comforted his disciples. This exhortation encouraged their hearts by affirming that His heart and His Presence would always available. There are two important aspects of this passage. First, this promise was not only for the disciples, but for us as well. Just as the Lord’s Presence did not leave the Israelites as they traveled through the desert, and just as David proclaimed the Lord’s leadership through dark and difficult seasons, so we can be encouraged that He will never leave us. When Jesus spoke these words of promise, no space or room was left for an exception; no loophole or condition. Our Covenant King declared that He would be with us. Always. In the moments where He seems distant and far away, we must remind ourselves that His promise remains true. By speaking truth to our souls, we can be encouraged that He truly is with us.
It is this transcendence of Christ’s promise that is so powerful, meaningful. With every step we take, in every season of life, through every change, we can trust that He will never leave us. The comfort that these words brings is beyond cost, beyond comparison. To rest in the assurance of a steady, near, and attentive Father is invaluable as we journey into all that He has prepared for us.
Another passage, Hebrews 6:9, holds particular comfort as well:
We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf.
With these words, our hearts can receive assurance and affirmation. We are given the assurance that our hope is strong. Indeed, it is an anchor for our souls. The waves of life that would seek to toss us back and forth are of no comparison to our sure and strong Anchor, Christ Jesus. Not only that, but Jesus is our forerunner. He has gone before us and made a way. No obstacle, no challenge could prevent our hearts from reaching full maturity and competition.
There will be a day when we reflect the Son. Our hearts will shine with resplendent brilliance that speaks to the excellencies and beauty of Christ (1 John 3:2-3). With this assurance, we can press on knowing that His promises are sure: our hope is strong and His work in our hearts will reach completion (Phil 3:14) (James 1:4). So, Dear Saints, rest patiently in the faithfulness of His promise (Heb 6:15). Know that He will never leave you; surely, He is always with you. Know that your soul has a sure Anchor and His work in you will be brought to completion. Allow these promise to bring strength and courage to your heart. If He is for you, then nothing can be against you.

One response to “The Journey – Part 1”
[…] The last post talked about the promises that we have as we process and journey through life. Focusing on the Lord’s faithfulness and the hope we have in pursuing intimacy with His heart, that post was concerned with our heart posture toward the secret place for the long term. This week’s post will focus on the integral role of community as we go along life’s journey. […]
